Digital Nation Documentary

We're watching Digital Nation in pieces while we do our grammar exercises. So far we've seen about 35 minutes. If you missed the first class, that was the first 25 minutes. Catching up over vacation would be a great idea.

We will comment on the film in comments here.

    2. They made the film to show us that some people can multi-task but they are not putting their full attention to what they should be doing.

  2. They are trying to get us to understand how much electronics are taking over peoples lives. People are becoming addicted to video gaming and facebook and ect.. And it is also hard to become not addictive to electronics. People start to only care about the electronic and stop caring about the real world

  3. I think multitasking has an affect on people because people can do one thing at a time better than doing two things at a time.

    1. True enough, Gina. That's one of the things the filmmakers set out to demonstrate and it sounds as if they did.

  4. I think that most of it is true but i do not spend enough time in the computer to kind of loose my mind. When i day dream i do not dream about video game or the computer or anything like that. Sometimes when I dream at night there is a T.V. in it.
I am not a good multi-tasker the only time I try to multi-task I am cooking and I usually burn something. Those kids can not multi-task.

  6. I think digital Nation is trying to tell us that kids are too addicted to the internet. Also when kids multitask tests have proven that people are not good at multitasking like if people are on facebook while writing a paper, even though they think they are good multitaskers.

    1. Right, the filmmakers did a pretty good job of showing this using work by brain scientists.

  8. I think that they said that when somebody is multitasking they do not get stuff done at the same level or quality that they could if they were only doing one at a time. They also talking about when people get to used to using technology then they have to go to special camps to get away from technology and in to more nature stuff. Then they had people talking about how it was and they said it was very hard to do because they had nothing that was related to technology.

    1. It looks like you understand parts of the film. When you say "people get used to using technology," I'm guessing you mean the part where the teenaged boy was essentially addicted to the internet and had to be sent to a kind of nature rehab center. On revision, you would want to distinguish "people [who] get used to technology" from those who are addicted.

The difficulty of being away from this kind of technology seems to have made an impression on you.
